I had the honor of getting a tour of the Wonder Wheel vault last weekend. I was happy to see the old Spookarama props have been saved for posterity!
Last Sunday, Steve Vouderis gave Dick Zigun and I a tour of the vault under the Wonder Wheel kiddie park. It was quite a treasure trove of props from Spookarama over the years. Here, Steve and Dick are inspecting a Mermaid that was made in the 30’s for a Coney Island Mardi Gras parade. It was fixed up in the 80’s and was in one of the first Mermaid Parades but is undergoing a new refurbishing to appear in this year’s 30th annual Mermaid Parade!
Looks like Kembra from the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black to me!
Behind the modern light beam shooting Gallery in Coney island lies this gem- an authentic William Mangels shooting gallery. Reeks of WWI to me, but may be later- 1930’s? Anyone know?
